What does the Greater Manchester mayor do and what are their powers?

With the Greater Manchester mayoral election set to take place tomorrow (Thursday, 30 July), we're taking a look at what the role entails and the political powers that come with the title.With Andy Burnham still settling in as Prime Minister after coming into power last week, attention will start to turn away from Heron House - the new Number 10 North - and towards the seat vacated at the Tootal Buildings on Oxford Road - where the offices of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) are located.Mr Burnham became the first mayor of the city in 2017 after receiving 63 per cent of the vote, winning majorities in all ten of Greater Manchester's boroughs.
