A historic Atrincham pub is about to undergo a huge change12:13, 14 Aug 2026A historic pub in Altricham has announced it will be closing for a month as it undergoes a month-long full refurbishment, which owners said had been a ‘long time’ coming.The Old Packet House, on Navigation Road, is situated right by the Bridgewater Canal and is a popular pub for dog walkers and ramblers in the area. Built in the 1770s, it was initially known as a stop-off point for passengers travelling the canal between Manchester and Runcorn.Now considered to be a rare functioning 18th-century canalside landmark, the cosy independent Trafford pub has retained a number of its original features including glass work and a central chimney with a real log fire.Click here for the latest on Manchester's food & drink
