Vegetables in markets, e-commerce platforms to face safety checks next
The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department will now conduct safety checks on vegetables sold in markets, supermarkets, and through e-commerce platforms following complaints that chemicals are being sprayed on vegetables to retain their freshness, Health Minister U.T. Khader said on Wednesday.Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Khader said the department, which has been conducting raids on eateries and storage spaces, had received complaints about the use of chemicals on vegetables to make them look fresh and attractive.“Vegetables sold by e-commerce companies and those available in supermarkets generally look shiny. From the point of view of public health, vegetables sold through these outlets will also undergo safety checks,” he said. Published - August 26, 2026 08:27 pm IST
