Ukraine’s Independence Shaping Our Collective Future

Ukraine's Parliament declared independence from the Soviet Union on Aug. 24, 1991, ending centuries of Russian domination and hastening the USSR's collapse. For over a decade, Ukraine has defended that independence against Russian aggression, invaded in 2014 and 2022. German officials now warn Russia could attack a NATO country by 2029. NATO nations must urgently boost military support, especially air-defense systems, to help Ukraine prevail and avert a wider war.
