Ugram triumphs: India’s indigenous rifle clears Army & MHA trials, poised for big CAPF orders
DRDO launches indigenous assault rifle 'Ugram' for armed forcesIn another boost for Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Ugram rifle has cleared key Army and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) trials. Chambered for the 7.62×51mm cartridge, the rifle is now likely to be procured by several Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) such as the Central Reserve Police Force, Indo‑Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal and the National Security Guard. The rifle was developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It meets the Army’s General Staff Qualitative Requirement (GSQR) and has cleared Army trials as well. The rifle weighs under four kilograms and has an effective range of 500 metres.Named Ugram — “ferocious” in Sanskrit —
