US analyst Paul Goble told Kyiv Post that President Donald Trump’s 90-minute call with Vladimir Putin should be viewed less as a diplomatic breakthrough and more as part of Trump’s attempt to position himself as a mediator between Moscow and Kyiv. Ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, Goble said the real test will be whether the alliance can rebuild a common US-European position on Ukraine and keep pressure on Moscow.
