Gary Dwyer was an influential and well-loved figure in Liverpool's alternative music scene during the 1980s, bursting onto the stage with his band, The Teardrop Explodes.‌The sad news of the musician's death was announced by his bandmate David Balfe today, Monday August 10.‌The keyboard player posted on Facebook: "It is with enormous sadness that I must pass on the news that my wonderful friend of nearly fifty years, Gary Dwyer, Teardrop Explodes drummer and very special man, passed away last night.
