Tributes as ex-MP and 'Salford legend' Terry Lewis dies aged 90

NewsGreater Manchester NewsSalfordTerry Lewis represented Worsley in Salford for two decades13:18, 22 Jul 2026Tributes are being paid to a respected former MP and 'Salford legend' who has died aged 90. Terry Lewis was elected as the Labour MP for Worsley in Salford in 1983 - a staunch socialist whose constituency included Salford's strongest Tory enclave.‌He retired at the 2005 general election and was succeeded by Labour's Barbara Keeley. Mr Lewis, who was 69 when he retired from politics, once held the record for voting more than any other Labour MP against his own government, run at the time by Tony Blair.‌After being a member for 44 years he quit the Labour Party in 2010 in disgust, saying it was close to 'Thatcherism', but rejoined in 2015 when Jeremy Corbyn became leader.‌Click here
