Three sentenced to death for gang rape in Jamalpur

A Jamalpur court today sentenced three men, including a Union Parishad member, to death and life imprisonment in a gang rape case filed over an incident in Sadar upazila’s Rashidpur union.Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim of the Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 pronounced the verdict this afternoon.The convicts are Md Sattar Ali, a Ward 6 member of Rashidpur Union Parishad, Md Abdul Maleque and Md Anu. They were also fined Tk 1 lakh each, with the court ordering that the money be recovered and paid to the victim.According to Public Prosecutor Advocate Fazlul Haque, the incident took place on the night of October 19, 2024, in the Bhatipara area of Rashidpur.The victim was sleeping at home when the accused allegedly called her outside around 11:00pm.
