This popular 1970s perfume is making a comeback — And it’s even more iconic than before
New York Post Composite Trends come and go, but certain beauty products stand the test of time. Opium by Yves Saint Laurent is one of them. In 1977, the designer launched the fragrance to accompany its Autumn-Winter 1977 collection inspired by China. The formula: a dazzling blend of patchouli, myrrh and vanilla. Saint Laurent himself was hands on throughout the entire process of creating the perfume. He helped assemble the perfect group of scents, create the shape of the bottle, write the press kit and coordinate the advertising campaign with Jerry Hall, photographed by Helmut Newton.
