The presence of sharks in Portugal poses no risk to swimmers
Although Portuguese territorial waters are home to various shark species, such as the blue shark, mako, hammerhead, and, further offshore, the great white shark, sightings near beaches frequented by swimmers are rare, and the risk of attacks on humans is negligible.
