Thalinomics goes for a toss as LPG fuels food price rise, Telangana logs 6.32% inflation

A new notice has gone up in Panchakattu Dosa, a popular restaurant franchisee in Hyderabad, that listed how the prices of various items that affect food business have changed. Gas is up by 85%, urad dal by 17%, disposables by 10% and rice upto 10%.The notice left a message: “Due to increased costs of all the raw materials in the last six months, we have no choice but to increase our prices”.In another part of the city, Kakatiya Deluxe Mess pegged its new ‘all-you-can-eat’ thali price at ₹250 from August 1. Just eight months earlier, on January 1, the same meal at the same restaurant cost ₹200. Between the jump from ₹200 to ₹250 or a 25% jump in prices, is the impact of food inflation in Hyderabad, or as Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called it, the impact of ‘thalinomics’.Smalle
