Teen who died in River Thames named as ‘talented young footballer’

A 14-year-old boy who died in the River Thames on Monday has been named as a “talented young footballer”.The boy died after going into the water near Millwall Outer Dock, on London’s Isle of Dogs.Emergency services were alerted about 6.50pm on Monday, and his body was recovered around 10.30pm.He was pronounced dead at the scene.Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman has named the teenager as local boy Banta Sillah and said he was “heartbroken” over the “tragic” death.“Banta was a talented young footballer who played for Frontline Community FC and was instrumental in helping the team win the Tower Hamlets Cup last week,” Mr Rahman said.
