Tarcísio Takes a US$1 Billion Loan Fight to the Supreme Court

São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas has taken a dispute over a R$5.45 billion (about US$1.01 billion) loan to Brazil's Supreme Federal Court. The state wants a federal guarantee for credit from Banco do Brasil to fund metro lines and highways, and argues the Finance Ministry led by rival Fernando Haddad is stalling a routine approval. The ministry says the request is following the regular process and is in its final stage.
