Syria Sentences Exiled Dictator Bashar Assad to Death for War Crimes

The Fourth Criminal Court in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Tuesday sentenced former dictator Bashar Assad to death in absentia for “war crimes and crimes against humanity,” perpetrated during the brutal 14-year civil war he waged to stay in power, with copious assistance from his patrons in Iran and Russia.
