Swansea pupils celebrate beating Wales-wide GCSE average as 23% gain A* or A grades

Figures released by the local education authority show 23% of city pupils gained A* and A grades, compared with 19.6% across Wales.‌More than 65% of students achieved the higher grades of A* to C in 28 of the 40 different subjects. A total of 97.7%of GCSE subject entries in Swansea were passed (grades A* to G), compared with the Welsh pass rate of 96.8%.‌Across the whole of Wales the overall GCSE pass rate A* to G is slightly down as are grades A*-C but for the top A* only results are up very slightly.
