August 21, 2026 2:27 PM ET The United States Supreme Court confirmed Friday it will decide the fate of President Donald Trump’s vision for the modernization of the White House’s East Wing, the construction of which has progressed amid a torrent of legal filings, oral arguments, judicial deliberations, and court orders for 252 days.The National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States filed a lawsuit Dec. 12, 2025, challenging Trump’s October demolition of the East Wing and the subsequent construction blitz of a roughly 89,000-square-foot project to be crowned with a 22,000-square-foot state ballroom and “droneport.” Following the administration’s immediate appeal of a March 31 order by U.S. District Judge Richard Leon — an appointee of President George W. Bush — halting the pro
