It does not necessarily reflect the view of The Herald. The only ferry slipway serving one of Scotland's smallest islands is to close for essential repairs. The slip at Port Askaig on Islay, which enables the small car ferry to Jura, will be shut later this month while damaged steel wear strips are replaced, along with concrete repairs and resurfacing works. The Jura ferry will operate via a linkspan for the duration of the project, which will allow the works to be carried out safely and efficiently, according to Argyll and Bute Council. The works are currently planned to begin during the week of 2
