Russian Anti-War Politician Summoned to Court Ahead of Elections

Russian police summoned opposition figure Boris Nadezhdin to court Friday on charges of "demonstration of extremist symbols," linked to a 2023 video featuring the late Alexei Navalny. A conviction would bar him from September's parliamentary elections, which he is seeking to contest. Nadezhdin briefly ran against Putin in 2024 and remains one of few Kremlin critics still free. The summons follows his recent designation as a "foreign agent," a label he plans to dispute in court.
