Royals DFA former Phillies All-Star reliever after trade deadline

The Kansas City Royals get their MVP-caliber shortstop back on Tuesday night. Today, the AL Central club announced that Bobby Witt Jr. was reinstated from the injured list after he missed multiple weeks with lower back tightness and spasms. It was the first IL stint of Witt's career. The Royals have also recalled right-hander Jose Cuas from Triple-A Omaha. Witt and Cuas take the roster spots of two players who were both designated for assignment by the Royals. Infielder Andrew Velazquez was DFA'd. More notably, Kansas City cut ties with lefty reliever Matt Strahm. Royals DFA reliever Matt StrahmStrahm was an All-Star with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2024 but has not found the same success with the Royals.
