Romania’s power grid operator sees no risk as nuclear reactor remains online
06 August 2026 Romania’s power grid operator Transelectrica announced that it is operating the National Power System SEN under some of the most difficult conditions in recent years, amid the severe drought affecting Romania and the entire region. The company reports that although the system is under high operational stress, there is currently no risk of a major breakdown, and the electricity supply is maintained safely through operational measures and the use of all available resources. In the meantime, the controlled sinking operation of the four barges in the Danube, intended to increase the water flow to the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, has been postponed until the morning of August 6, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Ionel Scrioșteanu, announced.
