Residents praised for helping get neighbours to safety during north Belfast blaze

Residents of a north Belfast street have been praised for helping neighbours escape serious injury after a house fire.The blaze broke out on Monday afternoon at a property at Carlisle Parade in the New Lodge area. A resident of the property managed to get out with the assistance of neighbours, who also alerted other residents in the terraced street to danger.Firefighters eventually doused the blaze as it was beginning to spread to adjoining properties after starting on an upstairs floor.Emergency services were alerted to the fire at 4.44pm, and firefighters rushed to the scene with four fire appliances and one aerial appliance.Three casualties – understood to be suffering non-life threatening injuries – were by that stage being looked after in a house belonging to another local resident.Re
