Remand prisoner attempts to end life in Repalle Sub-Jail

A remand prisoner allegedly attempted to end his life by slashing his throat with a vegetable-cutting knife inside the kitchen of the Repalle Sub-Jail on Wednesday.The prisoner, V. Srinivasa Rao, was arrested on July 5 in connection with the murder of an elderly woman and was subsequently remanded in judicial custody. Police said he had surrendered at a police station in connection with the murder case.According to the police, Mr. Srinivasa Rao entered the jail kitchen in the morning to open a bag of rice. He allegedly picked up a vegetable-cutting knife kept there and slashed his throat.
