Rangamati journalist arrested in pornography case

Police arrested a journalist in Rangamati today in connection with a pornography case.The arrestee, Saykat Ranjan Chowdhury, is the Rangamati district correspondent of a private television channel and general secretary of the Rangamati Journalists’ Union.A team of the Cyber Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him around 2:30pm from in front of the Rangamati District Council gate, in connection with a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station in Dhaka, Rangamati Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdur Rakib told The Daily Star.He, however, could not provide details of the case, and confirmed that no case against Saykat exists in Rangamati police stations.Saykat’s wife, Tushi Barua, said she spoke to him around 6:30pm, when he told her he was going to Dhaka for work.
