Prosecutors indict ex-navy sergeant on spy allegations

By Wang Chieh and Jake Chung / Staff reporter, with staff writer Add TT as Preferred Source The Tainan branch of the High Prosecutors’ Office has indicted a retired navy sergeant surnamed Ma (馬) on charges of contravening the National Security Act (國家安全法) for allegedly attempting to develop an intelligence gathering organization for China.Ma was also indicted for allegedly soliciting bribes from officials and contravening the Anti-Corruption Act (貪污治罪條例).Ma allegedly began taking instructions from China as early as 2008 and was directed to develop an organization in Taiwan to collect intelligence on military, maritime and coast Guard Administration affairs, prosecutors said.
