Police arrest 35th suspect in Overasselt shooting that killed guard, injured 2 officers

Sunday, 6 September 2026 - 13:05 Share this article: Police report that they have arrested a new, 35th suspect for the fatal Overasselt shooting of 51-year-old security guard Berry Leenders and for injuring two police officers. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) had already said on Friday that more arrests are possible.Of the 34 who were initially arrested, 32 were remanded into custody. Two were released. Prosecutors said they're still suspects but haven't been definitively linked to a crime scene yet.Of the 32 remanded into custody, two were French teenagers (16 & 17), 14 were French adults, and 11 were Dutch adults. The others were from Belgium, Libya, Ukraine, and Algeria. The adults are all aged from 18 to 32.All of them are facing the same charges even if they haven't yet determined
