Parle, retailer ordered to pay ₹50,000 for underweight biscuit packet

The Kannur district Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Parle Products Private Limited and Metro Hypermarket, Chakkarakkal, to jointly pay ₹50,000 to a consumer after finding that a biscuit packet labelled as weighing 150 grams contained only around 125 grams.The order was passed by a bench comprising Commission President Ravi Susha and members Molukutty Mathew and K.P. Sajeesh on a complaint filed by T.P. Ashik of Kallayi, Anjarakandy.Mr. Ashik had purchased a pocket of Parle 20-20 biscuits from Metro Hypermarket on July 26, 2024. On weighing the packet at a nearby shop, he found it contained only 125 grams instead of the declared 150 grams and approached the Commission.
