Parades Commission insists Garvaghy Road court ruling ‘does not affect’ future decisions on parades

Future decisions by the Parades Commission will not be impacted by a High Court ruling to quash a determination banning the Orange Order from marching along the nationalist Garvaghy Road, it has been claimed.Earlier this week the commission conceded a procedural error in how it dealt with an annual application for permission to walk along the route in majority Catholic area of Portadown.Not all six members of the commission had signed off on the final determination before it was issued last month.The Drumcree Church parade has been banned from walking through the Garvaghy Road district since the late 1990s, when the dispute sparked major disturbances and saw several loyalist murders including the deaths of three children.Garvaghy Road residents will be ‘disappointed and angered’ if Parades
