Over 70% of Chennai’s stormwater drains to be desilted by September-end: GCC

Velankanni Raj The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has completed desilting 493.83 km (29.42%) of the 1,671.6-km stormwater drain network taken up through contracts as of August 28, 2026. Work is under way along 77.29 km (4.62%), while that along 1,109.2 km (65.94%) remains to be taken up.Tiruvottiyur has recorded the highest physical progress at 57.43%, followed by Sholinganallur at 54.87% and Alandur at 46.41%. Anna Nagar has recorded 37.94%, followed by Madhavaram (34.71%), Perungudi (30.73%), Manali (30.69%), Valasaravakkam (28.64%), Ambattur (28.56%), Adyar (24.98%), and Royapuram (22.08%).
