Nvidia announces purchase of AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion

The microchip giant announced Thursday it would acquire the platform, which was founded by three French entrepreneurs in New York in 2016, at a marked increase over the $7 billion reportedly at the basis of initial negotiaions. The announcement comes as companies turn to open AI models to keep costs down.
