New Law Grants Equal Military Rights to Ukraine’s Former Convict Soldiers

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a new law on Tuesday, Aug. 4, granting former convicts serving under military contract the same rights as other soldiers, including medical care, leave, and transfer options. Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, passed the bill on July 14 with 309 votes in favor.
