New fuel price hikes, petrol at €2.005 per litre, a three-year high
Fuel price hikes are continuing in Italy as the Iran war knock-on effects continue to bite. Petrol hit a new peak Friday after Thursday's €2.002 per litre and rose to €2.005 in self-service mode on the road, the highest price in about three years. On the motorway it is €2.080 (Thursday it was €2.077). Diesel reached €2.122 per litre on the road (Thursday it was €2.116) and €2.194 on the motorway (Thurs €2.186), according to data collected by the MIMIT (transport ministry) Fuel Price Observatory. For petrol, weekly data from the Ministry of the Environment show that the price hasn't exceeded 2 euros per litre since 2023 (2.001 in the weekly average from September 18 to 24, 2023).
