Neighbours complain of 'sweaty cafe' smell after spate of 'horrendous' incidents
The stench has invaded people's homes across Bootle05:00, 05 Aug 2026People living alongside Bootle’s Millers Bridge have christened it 'Spiller’s Bridge' after multiple oil spills closed the crucial dual carriageway and left elderly residents stranded.The road was closed for eight days after a spill on Sunday, July 19. Buses were diverted and neighbours complained of a stench so pungent they could smell it in their homes. The area has been a hotspot for oil spills, with multiple incidents over previous years, including 2000 gallons of vegetable oil soaking the road in 2022.Another spillage, of palm oil, occurred on nearby Derby Road On Friday July 24, closing a lane of the dual carriageway for four days. The road was cleared after sand described by neighbours as being "like cat litter"
