Ministry lowers subsidies for two universities

By Rachel Lin and Fion Khan / Staff reporter, with staff writer Add TT as Preferred Source The Ministry of Education on Saturday said it has reduced government subsidies for Tamkang University and Tunghai University for two China-related exchange programs that it said contravened regulations, amid rising concerns over Beijing’s “united front” tactics targeting Taiwanese educators.The ministry said it has repeatedly instructed schools to register all cross-strait educational activities through an official online platform, and establish internal review and control mechanisms.Schools and organizations would be required to explain, should it be found that their students are participating in exchanges linked to “united front” activities, it added.
