Miami overtakes New York to become America's second most expensive metro area

Miami is no longer the more affordable alternative to New York. For the first time, the South Florida metro area has overtaken the New York metropolitan region as the second most expensive place to live in the United States, driven by soaring housing costs, insurance premiums and everyday expenses.According to the latest Regional Price Parities (RPP) report from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro area recorded a cost-of-living index of 114.155 in 2024, surpassing the New York-Newark-Jersey City region, which scored 112.563.
