Mets cut ties with ex-Red Sox, Astros shortstop amid Marcus Semien news

The New York Mets have made a notable roster move before Thursday night's series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies. Today, the NL East club announced that second baseman Marcus Semien was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Semien missed three weeks with a Grade 3 left hip flexor strain. In a corresponding move, shortstop Zack Short was designated for assignment. Short made six appearances in the Majors with the Mets. He collected one hit and struck out seven times in 16 trips to the plate. As a veteran of six MLB seasons, Short has suited up for five clubs, including the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros.
