Met Office issues rare amber heat warning with power cut threat and risks to health

The warning, which comes into effect at 9am on Thursday and ends at 11.59pm the same day, comes as ‘very high temperatures’ of up to 38°C could lead to ‘impacts’ to health and infrastructure. The forecaster says ‘adverse health effects are likely to be experienced by those vulnerable to extreme heat’, but that the ‘wider population’ is also at risk of some health issues including sunburn and heat exhaustion. ‘More people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes and rivers leading to an increased risk of water safety incidents,’ it added.
