Man flees after allegedly ramming police car in Upper Hutt

A man has been arrested after allegedly running over an officer's foot and ramming a police car in the Upper Hutt suburb of Silverstream.Police say the man then fled in the stolen vehicle he was driving.Inspector Wade Jennings says police didn't chase it because of the manner of driving."Instead, staff maintained observation of the vehicle using a combination of Police units, updates from members of the public, and CCTV footage."The car was later abandoned and the driver fled on foot, while police took a passenger into custody.A dog unit tracked the alleged offender.He was arrested and assessed by medics after being bitten by a police dog during the arrest.The man is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
