Reuters reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres. The tremor comes days after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck off Flores, killing dozens and causing widespread damage in the region.The magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off Flores Island on August 15, with its epicentre located about 68 km north-northwest of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara. The shallow quake triggered landslides, damaged homes, schools, health facilities and government buildings, and generated small tsunami waves, with the highest recorded at about 1.61 metres.
