Madras High Court closes contempt case against ‘Savukku’ Shankar

Shankar | Photo Credit: Instagram / @savukku_shankar The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday (July 30, 2026) disposed of the suo motu contempt proceedings that was initiated against YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar in 2022 for his remarks on the higher judiciary.A Division Bench of Justices G.R. Swaminathan and B. Pugalendhi said no further orders were required. The court disposed of the contempt proceedings.In 2022, the court sentenced Mr. Shankar to six months of simple imprisonment. The Supreme Court suspended the sentence and directed the High Court to fix terms and conditions for the suspension of sentence.
