By Chung Li-hua and Jonathan Chin / Staff reporter, with staff writer Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Chiu Chui-cheng (邱垂正) on Friday warned Taiwanese, including entertainers working in China, that they might face penalties after China’s “ethnic unity law” took effect.China on Wednesday promulgated the Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law, which authorizes penalties against overseas organizations and people that Beijing deems to have undermined ethnic unity or promoted ethnic seperatism.Speaking in an interview aired on Taipei Pop Radio, Chiu said the new legislation is repackaging the forcible annexation of other peoples and territories under the guise of “ethnic unity.” People are silhouetted in front of decorations featuring the Chinese flag in China in an undated photograph.
