‘Lucky’ Episode 2 Recap: Deserter’s Song

There is nowhere to hide in the Mojave Desert. Not when you’re a henchman burned to cinders in a car wreck, and not when you’re the person whose keepsake Zippo set the flame. In Episode 1 of Lucky, Anya Taylor-Joy’s resourceful grifter recovered from getting played by her own husband and managed to escape Las Vegas while giving the FBI the slip. But her luck ran dry on the road to Kingman, AZ, where she was apprehended by an enjoyably unpredictable Annette Bening as crime world executive Priscilla Madddddsterson. Maybe it’s because they’re related — Priscilla is the mother of Lucky’s deadbeat husband Cary — but for whatever reason, she was only locked in a trunk.
