A major error on the part of the department means some people have been short-changed. The department is writing to those affected.‌There has been confusion over the issue as some have had letters about their finances dating back 20 years. The issue relates to people who were previously on tax credits, either Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit. These benefits have now ended, having been replaced by Universal Credit. But there have been mistakes on records meaning for some claimants an award notice was "not issued when it should have been".‌HM
