Lidl launch bid to expand Belfast city centre store with pharmacy acquisition

Lidl has revealed plans to expand its supermarket in Belfast city centre by acquiring a neighbouring pharmacy.In a new planning application submitted to Belfast City Council, the German grocer has proposed an overhaul and reorganisation of its High Street store, where it has traded since 2014.The plans involve knocking through into the neighbouring Chemist Connect unit at the corner of High Street and Pottinger’s Entry.The retailer is also proposing to transform the store internally, moving its bakery and entrance, with a new exit opened onto High Street from the former pharmacy unit.Lidl opened its first city supermarket in the north on High Street 12 years ago.Lidl's plans to expand its High Street store in Belfast involve expanding into a neighbouring pharmacy unit.
