LETTER: Public agencies complain about the Nevada public records law

Robert H. Ferguson Las Vegas August 11, 2026 - 9:01 pm The Nevada Public Records Act is absolutely necessary to maintain a transparent government. The agencies that claim they are getting overloaded, including the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Police Department and others, are telling us they can’t keep up. It does appear that some public records requests are designed to gum up the works, such as demanding every Metro event number for the past 53 years. The Review-Journal reports that the overload of processing all these requests has, predictably, spawned a legislative task force to figure out how to deal with the problem. Undoubtedly, the task force will recommend throwing a few more million dollars at the problem and hiring more bureaucrats. May I be so bold as
