LETTER: Clark County judge’s decision in traffic death is absurd

Meckley Las Vegas July 27, 2026 - 2:34 pm A subhead in the Review-Journal’sThursday Nevada section stated, ”No prison for man whose reckless driving killed valley teen.” Here is the absurd quote from District Judge Jennifer Schwartz speaking to the defendant: “You are a child, and I know it wasn’t intentional. This is your one shot.” Personally, I was not aware that a “child” could legally drive a car. Additionally, I was not aware that drivers get one shot to kill someone without paying a very steep price. I also wonder how the judge knows the act wasn’t intentional when the driver was going 30 mph above the speed limit and chose to race at that speed.
