LETTER: Adjust the federal wage floor to inflation
Vince Reardon Las Vegas July 10, 2026 - 9:01 pm It is time to take the minimum wage debate and put it to bed. The federal minimum wage of $7.25 was established on July 24, 2009. If it had been adjusted for inflation each year after 2009, the current minimum wage would be approximately $11.25. I propose that Congress tie the minimum wage to inflation, like Social Security. By ensuring the minimum wage is automatically adjusted every year, Congress can be free to deal with more pressing problems, such as the national debt or keeping Social Security solvent after 2033.
