LETTER: A strange definition of ‘success’

Roy Berger Las Vegas August 25, 2026 - 9:01 pm You Aug. 21 editorial citing “success” in the Strait of Hormuz hinges on a misleading mathematical miscalculation. If, before the war, there were 20 millions barrels of crude passing through the strait and now, six months later, there are between 5 million and 10 million barrels, how can this be rated as a “success”? We are moving in the wrong direction. Plus, the price of gasoline has increased to more than $4.10 a gallon, which affects all aspects of our daily lives. This causes rampant inflation, which costs the average American family more than $1,500 a year. President Donald Trump and company will argue the additional tax breaks will more than make up that difference, but how many have lost food stamps, Medicare coverage and other benefit
