Lawmaker seeks new ride-hailing law

DIFFERENCE OF OPINION: The ministry thinks an amendment is sufficient, the KMT lawmaker thinks a new law is needed, and Uber thinks things are just great as they are By Shelley Shan / Staff Reporter Add TT as Preferred Source The Ministry of Transportation and Communication yesterday said that it favors an amendment to the Highway Act (公路法) to clearly define the responsibilities of online ride-hailing platforms, rather than enacting a new law to regulate them. The ministry made the comments at a meeting of legislature’s Transportation Committee. The meeting focused on a bill proposed by Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Huang Chien-hao (黃建豪) and 17 other lawmakers that would introduce a new law to regulate Uber, Bolt, Yoxi and other ride-share operators. Chinese Nationalist Party
