Kyiv’s Biggest Transit Fare Hike in Years Takes Effect

Kyiv has raised public transport fares from Hr.8 ($0.18) to Hr.30 ($0.67) per trip, effective July 15, while retaining discounted fares and monthly pass options. City authorities said the increase was necessary to reduce the “colossal subsidy” provided from the municipal budget, but critics argued the hike would heavily impact lower-income residents already struggling with the economic toll of the war.
